Nawazuddin Siddiqui Files Rs 100 Crore Defamation Suit Against Brother and Former Wife

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has filed a defamation suit against his brother Shamasuddin and former wife Anjana Pandey. The suit seeks damages of Rs 100 crores for the defamation and harassment that he faced due to the misleading claims made by them. In this article, we will discuss the details of the defamation suit and its implications.

The Allegations and Claims

In the defamation suit filed through advocate Sunil Kumar, Siddiqui has urged the court to pass an injunction to permanently restrain his brother and former wife from defaming him. The suit also seeks a written public apology from them for defaming the actor.

Moreover, Siddiqui has also prayed that the court direct the two to make a complete disclosure about the people they have approached to convey false and malicious information. The plea states that following the disclosure, the two may be restrained from disposing of or dealing with their assets in any manner, especially which may adversely affect Siddiqui from recovering the damages caused or other pecuniary remedies from them which the court may deem fit and proper.

Siddiqui’s Relationship with his Brother

According to Siddiqui’s suit, his brother Shamasuddin had told him that he was jobless in 2008, and Siddiqui took him in as his manager, who also had the work of auditing, filing of the Income Tax Returns, payment of GSTs, and duties, among others. While leaving all the worldly work to Shamasuddin, Siddiqui concentrated on his art. Siddiqui’s suit states that he blindly handed over the credit cards, debit cards, ATM, signed cheque book, bank passwords, email address, and everything to his brother.

However, after a while, their relationship deteriorated, and Siddiqui discontinued his brother’s service as a manager in 2020 and hired a chartered accountant when he received some legal notices from Income Tax, GST, and other government departments. The unpaid dues, according to Siddiqui, were Rs 37 crore from various departments which his brother had failed to pay.

Allegations of Misappropriation and Extortion

Siddiqui alleges that his brother and former wife have misappropriated Rs 21 crores and alleged that his brother, as his manager, had access to many of his meetings, whether formal, informal, and used to record video and audio conversations. The suit states that these are very personal in nature and cannot be made public.

Moreover, Siddiqui alleged that when he asked for his property to be returned, the brother and the ex-wife joined hands and started blackmailing him with “cheap videos and comments on social media.” Siddiqui alleged that Shamasuddin taught the same to their other brothers as well. His allegation is, however, mainly against his brother and former wife for allegedly extorting money.

Losses Suffered by Siddiqui

Siddiqui claims that due to the false and defamatory controversy and due to the false videos and posts being posted by the brother and ex-wife, he has suffered a huge loss of more than Rs.100 Crores. He claims that his upcoming films are being postponed and the posts and articles by his brother and ex-wife are so defamatory that Siddiqui “himself feels very shy to come to social gatherings and come before the public at large.”

Conclusion

The defamation suit filed by Siddiqui against his brother and former wife is a significant development in the ongoing family feud. The allegations and counter-allegations are serious, and it remains to be seen how the court will rule on the matter. It is also a reminder of how family
